Holly Jolly Challenge – Day 1

Today is the beginning of the Holly Jolly Challenge at Cedar Park CrossFit. We kicked things off last night by meeting at Plucker’s to eat one last bad meal before the challenge started off today. Bryan and I didn’t eat…in fact, we only had water. Though I will admit that we came home and cheated before going to bed. 🙁 Oh well…because….

The purpose of the challenge is to eat and exercise and not get sucked into the normal holiday routines of eating badly and not working out. It’s a team challenge which is great simply because it encourages you to be strict since other people are relying on you to adhere to the rules and WIN! So, to be more specific it’s a CrossFit and Paleo challenge based on points. You earn and lose points based on how you workout and eat. You are allowed one cheat meal per week and Thanksgiving is a cheat day. Other than that you must eat a strict Paleo diet. However, if you were to cheat you can do extra WODs to make up the points for your team. This will not be a problem for Bryan and I. We are very strict about our eating anyway. You also must go to 2 CrossFit classes each week, but your team can earn extra points by working out either individually or as a team. The way to earn the most points is to do a team workout in public while sporting CrossFit Cedar Park shirts!

Each member of the team has a journal where they they MUST write down everything that they put in their mouth as well as any workouts done each day. These journals are turned in at the end of every week for a coach to determine how many points you have been awarded or lost. It’s pretty simple! Each team member had to pay $25, but there is some serious cash to be won! 🙂 I do hope we win, but even if we don’t I hope that we do more and better than any of us ever dreamed possible.

For a lot of the competitors this is their first time going Paleo so the cheat meal will be really important to them. However, since we already eat Paleo and have for such a long time, I’m going to actually try and skip all of my cheat meals except for Thanksgiving since we are spending that with Bryan’s grandparents. We had already promised to eat so I’m gonna do this one for sure, but I’m really going to challenge myself the rest of the time and not eat anything non-Paleo. I’m not making any promises but simply telling you what my mindset is going into this thing. And I’m also gonna try to do tons of extra workouts. My team (named the WOD Quad) has started today with a bang! We all went to open gym this morning and we all did extra workouts! Sweet!

I’m going to do my best to scan in my journal sheet each day. I want to do this so that anyone who wonders what I eat or how I work out can see it plainly and easily. And if you have any questions about either please ask!

In other news…we bought a Wii today and the new Mario Brothers game! Too much fun!
